New book underway: Windows Phone 7 Game Development Tue, 22 Jun 2010 00:00:00 GMT Having recently finished up my game programming book for Windows Mobile, I'm very pleased to have now signed a contract with Apress to write a new version of the book targeted at Windows Phone 7 game development.

Windows Phone 7 has some fantastic capabilities for game developers, including a near full implementation of XNA (a powerful 2D and 3D graphics environment already in use on Windows and the Xbox 360) and Silverlight (a flexible user-interface environment which also has lots of potential for game developers).

In my new book I will cover everything you need to know to create rich and spectacular-looking games in either of these environments, and distribute them to the world through the Windows Phone Marketplace.

The new book is a near total rewrite, focusing entirely on the features and capabilities of this new platform.

Stay tuned for more details...

New freeware Windows Mobile game: GemDrops now ready to download Thu, 22 Apr 2010 00:00:00 GMT I'm pleased to announce the release of another game for Windows Mobile: GemDrops.

GemDrops is a fun and frantic puzzle game in which you must arrange pairs of falling gems to form groups of the same colour. Groups disappear once they have formed, allowing the gems above to fall. Create "chain reactions" to multiply up their score.

GemDrops is featured in my book, Windows Mobile Game Development, which also includes the GemDrops source code and step-by-step detail of how the game was designed and programmed.

I hope you like it!

I've written a book: Windows Mobile Game Development Sat, 27 Mar 2010 00:00:00 GMT After many months of hard work, I'm pleased to announce that I've now finished writing a book! Windows Mobile Game Development will teach you everything you need to know (providing you already have some basic C# or VB.NET programming knowledge) to create and distribute games for Windows Mobile devices, including setting up your development environment, graphics APIs (including coverage of OpenGL ES), game timing, object management, input and control mechanisms, music and sound effects, maximising device compatibility and lots more.

The book will be published by Apress within the next couple of months. If you would like to read more or order a copy, you can find the book on the following web sites:

TellyPrompter v1.7 released Mon, 21 Dec 2009 00:00:00 GMT A small but important update to TellyPrompter. The data format of the listings was modified, resulting in TellyPrompter showing an error message after downloading its programme listings.

This new version fixes the problem and is required in order for TellyPrompter to continue working.

Either update by choosing "Help / Check For Updates" in TellyPrompter's main window, or download the new version from TellyPrompter's page.]]> http://www.adamdawes.com/newsitemrss.html?id=66 Adam Dawes TellyPrompter v1.6 released Thu, 8 Oct 2009 00:00:00 GMT I can hardly believe it, but a year has passed since my previous TellyPrompter update. No need to wait any more though, as a new version is finally ready. This time it's a fairly small update, but one which contains features that quite a number of people have asked for.

TellyPrompter v1.6 now has support for high priority notifications (marked with a star graphic to draw them to your attention), is time-zone aware for those of you outside of GMT, and will refresh itself if you leave it running past midnight.

Have fun!
